Why can’t this be used on an 18’ gate?

I have an 18’ gate and need a lock but this clearly indicates 16’, why is that? Is the weight? I’m struggling to understand the logic?

There will be too much end play in the gate, you will likely not be able to achieve the resolution needed for proper lock adjustments. The maximum recommendation is 16' for single gates and 12' per gate leaf on dual systems.
